brake check
Bayport, Kentucky is just a small city and would probably be considered a blip on the screen if it were not for the fact that it was home to Bayport Downs. While not as illustrious and ritzy as Churchill Downs the track is still home to some of the finest Thoroughbred racehorses. Some may consider the track to just be a good spot for a good time at the races. But to those that raise horses it is a place of livelihood. Where watching the horses thunder down the track and across the finish line is a way of life. There are the jockeys, who risk their lives perched atop a speeding horse going forty miles an hour. Then there are the trainers who spend every day conditioning their horses to the best. To some owners, horses are a hobby but to others it is how they get by. But they wouldn't have it any other way.
everybody's watching you now
everybody waits for you now.
This is where the rivalry starts between two stables. Those who follow the Kentucky Steeplechase believe that flat racing, being only a challenge of stamina, is pointless. They believe since it does not challenge all the abilities of the horse, it is not a sport at all. Merely a fancy show of horses to provide for the gamblers and drunkards and their "get rich quick" schemes. Besides, the race lasts less than two minutes while there are different obstacles in steeplechasing. Those who follow flat racing believe that steeplechasing is a mockery of their sport. Why would anyone go to see horses jump when they can watch horses make an all out dash to the wire. That's talking about an adrenaline rush! This rivalry has caused a lot of tension in Bayport and is forcing people to take sides. which side are you on?
